Rev. Jim Lewis

Jim Lewis came to Long Beach Rescue Mission in August of 2006 from the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission in Indio, CA where he successfully rebuilt the reputation and programs of that Mission following embezzlement by its former director. Jim and his wife, Leslie, have been married for 29 years and served as technical support missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators/JAARS for 10 years; he in Communications and Public Relations, and she as a teacher.

Jim has a long history of community service which includes serving on the Riverside 2-1-1 Steering Committee; City of Palm Desert Technology and General Plan committees; Palm Desert Chamber Legislative Action Committee; Riverside County Homeless Task Force; Housing and Homeless Coalition; Palm Desert Rotary as Community Service Director; Community Prayer Breakfast Committee; and was recently nominated for the Jefferson Award for Community Service.

An ordained Senior Chaplain, Jim studied Nonprofit Organization Management at UC Riverside and is pursuing an MA in Christian Leadership at Fuller Theological Seminary. Leslie is completing an MA in Education as well as fulfilling her teaching contract through June 2007; Lewis Famillythey will be moving to Long Beach this summer. They are proud parents of four grown children.

Pictured from left to right: Nathaniel will soon complete his studies as a Nuclear Propulsion Technician in the US Navy; Molly is completing a Masters degree at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland; Emily, recently married, is Telecomm Manager for Westmont College and is completing a Masters degree at Azusa Pacific University; and Amanda lives in Minneapolis and this year accomplished a 4000-mile bicycle tour from San Diego to Guatemala – where she volunteered for an agricultural agency – and then on to Mexico City.
