Want to help hands-on? Long Beach Rescue Mission offers a variety of rewarding opportunities for volunteers-from food service to music and the arts, class instruction and more.
Pitch in with our kitchen staff as they set up, serve and clean up after our lunch or dinner meals.
Assist customers, sort donations, and help tidy the store. We especially need volunteers with an in-depth knowledge of antiques and vintage merchandise.
Holiday and Special Events
Get involved with our Thanksgiving Dinner and Easter basket giveaway, Long Beach Marathon and other events. Ask the Volunteer Program Supervisor for information on current happenings.
Help out with data entry, filing, answering phones, and other clerical duties.
If you're musically or artistically inclined, ask our Volunteer Program Supervisor about Mission events that would benefit from your talents!
Serve at our women and children’s shelter through after school programs, Bible studies, dinner service and more.
Bring a group from your church to lead the evening chapel service at our Samaritan House.
Career Employment Services
Teach a career workshop. Or work with individual Mission residents on financial planning, writing résumés, holding mock job interviews and more.
Encourage and guide one of our New Life Program participants as they make their courageous journey back into productive society.
Enjoy teaching? We'd enjoy hearing from you. We're always in need of enthusiastic teachers for our life skills classes and small group Bible studies.
Use your knowledge of the law in one of our legal aid clinics, advising Mission clients on matters such as traffic tickets and child support.
Help our New Life Program graduates prepare to enter the workforce by helping improve their basic dental health.
Mobilize your church, school, business, team, dance class or community group to collect essential supplies for the Mission. Ask the Volunteer Program Supervisor for a list of pressing needs.

Once we've reviewed your application we’ll contact you about attending a Volunteer Orientation, which is required for each individual or volunteer group leader. (Note: it is not required for holiday-only volunteers.)
Orientations are generally held the second Wednesday of each month from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. But please inquire about the next scheduled meeting.

How old must I be to volunteer at the Mission?
The age minimum depends on the opportunity. But you must be at least seven years old to volunteer at the Mission.
I have children under the age of 18. Can they volunteer on their own?
No. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.
What happens at the Volunteer Orientation?
You'll hear a brief history of Long Beach Rescue Mission and learn about our current operations. You'll also get specifics about each volunteer opportunity, review our Volunteer Code of Conduct, and see how to get started.

Volunteer Orientation is conducted at our Samaritan House, located at 1335 Pacific Avenue, Long Beach, California.
